'Oh no, not another post about Pinterest' I hear you thinking!!
Everyone seems to feel the need to tell everyone about this amazing new sharing platform, but I want to let you know why it is such a great tool for me personally.
1. Pretty pictures to stimulate your imagination - I have always been drawn to pictures, photo's and visual references as opposed to a long piece of text. Don't get me wrong I do love a good book or magazine to read but I can often get bored or distracted easily if it doesn't grab my attention straight away. So many books I have are half read and quite often I find myself just flicking through a magazine and looking at the pictures!
2. Inspiration - It can inspire you for every part of your life from subjects such as cooking and gardening to fashion and interior design. You can spend hours browsing and using it as a resource of information. My friends kept raving about it and last month I decided to make an account - since then I have been hooked!
3. Back up brain - Yes, I admit I have a brain like a sieve. I have a great short-term memory for things I am surrounded with on a day-to-day basis but my long-term memory is horrendous. My brain tends to discard information that I am not using all the time. So,when I find something that I think may come in useful for the future, I will pin it on the relevant subject board as a lot of the time I will forget the name, or where it is from. I do envy people who can quote films or remember the exact name of a song, the lyrics and year it was released from years ago. I am so useless at that!
4. Research for design - I find it a brilliant tool for the research phase of a project. All the inspiration for your ideas can be stored in one place and easily referenced back to in the future. With one click of the image you have pinned, it leads you back to the original source. This is so much better than searching through saved images on your computer or frantically looking through notepads of web addresses and written notes that you have misplaced. It can be accessed from any computer so you don't need to keep saving things on a USB stick to transfer it over to a different pc.
So there you go, that is why Pinterest is such a great tool for me. Click here if you would like to have a look at my Pinterest boards.
