An Urban Garden

Liverpool Waterfront

Recently I have been really busy with  the first part installation of my largest project to date! You may already know of the Mann Island Apartments, otherwise known as 'the big black angular building' which looks like a giant alien space ship that has landed in the shadow of The Three Graces. This controversial building adds to the beautiful skyline of the Liverpool waterfront. You either love it or you hate it and for me personally, I love it!

Apartment Design With An Urban Garden

Luckily I have had the chance to design a few apartments in this very building with the latest being the largest one of the entire complex - a penthouse 3 bedroom triplex apartment with two large terraces overlooking the best views of the city.

And now that the Interior is almost complete, the next stage is designing the outdoor terraces. City living in Liverpool has so many advantages ; a central location in the midst of everything you could ever need. You have the shops, bars and restaurants, the Albert Dock, museums, art galleries and the echo arena all on your doorstop. What more could you want?

Well, for me... the one thing that is missing is a garden. Most city centre apartments don't even have a balcony, let alone a terrace. But even when there is a terrace, it tends to lack life. So when discussing with my client about what we could do with the two terraces that consist of grey paving and grey solid balustrades, it made so much sense to create an Urban Garden!!

Think maintenance free astro turf, trellis, big pots and plants, wooden decking, outdoor seating, tables and chairs, all creating an outdoor heaven which is an extension of your interior living space.

I have searched through Pinterest for inspiration and found some amazing ideas of how you can make your outdoor terrace come to life!! See below for what I have found...

  1. Hi there, Love the rooftop ideas – Maybe make use of the newer astroturf products as they need little maintenance as getting a lawnmower up to some of the terraces would be a nightmare! Looking forward to finishing my gardens when I get back…and also your back garden – Rob can do the digging tho lol! Hope the wardrobes are looking good – Pam says they are….back from the heat week on Thursday so catch you soon. Love Robx
