I went on a trip to Aintree retail park this weekend to get some chalk paint for my sideboard and I ended up buying a lot more than I was intending... does anyone else seem to spend more money when the sun comes out or is it just me?!
As well as buying paint I also came home with some frog tape, a vase, faux flowers and a note book.
I bought a tin of Graphite Rust-oleum chalk paint in a flat matt finish from B&Q. I have never used this brand before so I thought I'd give it a go because at £10 for 750ml, it works out much cheaper than Annie Sloan's chalk paint which is what I normally use. I'm planning on doing one of my next posts showing the process of upcycling my sideboard so I will let you know how this paint compares to Annie Sloan's.
I thought I may as well have a look around whilst at Aintree retail park so I also popped into Homesense and Marks and Spencer. I did a post about Homesense when it first opened in September last year. Read it here.
Homesense is full of everything you could possibly need for your home! From dogs toys, kitchenware to vases, furniture and bed linen. I love that every time you go in, there are completely different things on show.
I found a cute vase and some faux flowers for my kitchen table so ended up impulsively buying them. You can't dismiss an opportunity when a vase is £7 and the faux flowers are less than £3 each. I have so much bad luck with keeping plants alive, plus I also have hay fever so I haven't got a clue why I hadn't thought of buying artificial flowers sooner!
I think I had this idea that they would look a bit tacky and fake but it's actually really shocking how some of them look so real.
After mooching at the flowers for a while I opted for the white peonies because they have a timeless look that go with everything. If you are like me and tend to kill off your plants, I'd highly recommend having a look in Homesense for their faux flowers.
After Homesense I popped into Marks and Spencer to buy a birthday card for Rob and came out with a birthday card AND a present for myself :). I couldn't resist this 'Hot off the press' notebook for my blog ideas. Marks and Spencer have some great stationery as well as artificial flowers and at the moment they have a 3 for 2 offer on.
I love Lilies because they are so elegant but the problem is they have a strong pollen smell and the pollen goes everywhere. If you have hay fever like me you will struggle to enjoy the beauty whilst sneezing and wiping away the tears from your watery eyes.
I have a solution! I found that Marks and Spencer have beautiful Lilies as part of their artificial flower range.
If you prefer more of a modern, edgy look then I'd recommend going for the 'Artificial Pussy Willow' because it's more twig like with smaller petals. You could get a bunch of the Pussy Willow and display them in a really cool vase like the one below.
B&Q - Rust-oleum chalk paint and frog tape
Homesense - Vase and Artificial Peonies
Marks and Spencer - Hot off the press notepad and artificial flowers (3 for 2)
