How To Style Your Home Like You Would Style An Outfit For Autumn/Winter

Interior Design Tips: Style Your Interior Like You Would Style An Outfit For Autumn/Winter

Where has September gone? I know we're already a week into October but September seemed to have come by and gone with a blink of an eye.  In fact, never mind September, this entire year has gone by in a flash and I can't believe it's only 78 sleeps until Christmas!

We didn't get that Indian summer that we were all hoping for but don't fret as there is plenty to look forward to and now is the time to get all snug and cosy with a hot drink in front of the fire whilst it's raining outside. I decided to do my latest blog on the best ways to design your home so that it's all snug for the Autumn/Winter season. As we leave both London Fashion Week and London Design Festival behind us, it seems fitting to show you how the principles and trends used when styling an outfit can also be applied to your home interior too.

Layer Up

Add a rug, lots more cushions and a couple of throws within your interior and layer these up with contrasting textures and patterns. By contrasting a mix of a few textures that work nicely together, it creates more depth and warmth in your home and when you layer up it makes the whole room look and feel so much more cosy! I'm a big fan of quilted fabrics, chunky knits, furs and soft velvets.

Texture and Pattern

Trends in interiors tend to emulate those in the fashion world and you will often find lots of similarities across the two.  At the moment jewel tone velvets, feathers, checks, quilted fabrics and vintage furs are very on trend this season.

Autumnal Tones

Rich tones of teal blue, midnight blue, forest green, bold reds and burgundy are popular at the moment in both fashion and interiors. These deep hues look romantic and  contrast nicely with gold and brass accessories.

The Accessories

You should accessories your room like you would accessorise an outfit. Out of the ordinary jewellery seems to be very on trend at the moment with big bold and sculptural like necklaces or upcycled pieces from everyday objects. The accessories are what complete a look, so if you normally go for bold statement pieces in your jewellery, why not replicate the same look in your home.  You can accessorise your home using this similar idea with statement or sculptural like vases or ornaments. I'm loving gold and brass homeware at the moment and there are lots of Art Deco style pieces available which have bold and geometric shapes. If you'd prefer the upcycled option then why not take a trip down to the beach and collect driftwood and shells or go to the woods and collect pine cones and spray them gold.
